Disable Automatic Restarts

Published on May 6, 2010

Does it annoy you when Windows installs an Automatic update that requires a restart when you are busy doing something and don't want to restart immediately but can only 'sleep' it for a few minutes, before the annoying alert comes up again? If so, you can try a Registry hack to prevent automatic restarting after Automatic Updates.

The key you need to add or edit is:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoft WindowsWindowsUpdateAU]
"NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers"=dword:00000001
